Privacy Policy
This policy explains, in plain English, what information Chapters in Motion collects, why we need it, and how it is looked after when you order a bespoke documentary film.
The information you give us
When you order a film or contact us, you may provide:
- Your name and contact details, such as your email address.
- Details about the person or occasion your film is about.
- Written memories, stories, captions and notes you share with us.
- Photographs you upload for use in your film.
- Your order details, including the package you choose and your order number.
Because our films are personal, the material you submit may include information about you, your family and other people. Please only share material you are happy for us to use to create your film.
Payment information
Payments are processed securely by Stripe. When you pay, your card details are entered directly into Stripe’s payment system — they are never entered into, stored on, or visible to this website. We receive confirmation from Stripe that your payment succeeded, along with the amount paid and your order details.
How we use your information
We use the information you provide to:
- Create your bespoke film from the photographs, memories and stories you supply.
- Process and manage your order and payment.
- Communicate with you about your order — for example order confirmations, delivery of your finished film, and any questions we have while creating it.
- Respond to messages you send us through our contact page.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your photographs, memories or finished film for marketing or any other purpose without your permission.
Who we share your information with
We only share your information with the service providers needed to run Chapters in Motion and deliver your order, such as:
- Stripe, to process your payment.
- Our website hosting, database and file-upload providers, to store your order and the material you submit.
- Our email provider, to send you order confirmations and deliver your film.
These providers only handle your information as needed to provide their service to us.
Cookies, analytics and advertising
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our website — for example which pages are visited and how the site is found. This helps us improve the website. The information collected is about how the website is used, not the content of your order.
We use the Meta Pixel (Facebook and Instagram advertising) to measure how our advertising performs, to understand the actions people take on our website after seeing our advertising, and to improve our advertising campaigns.
Both of these may use cookies, pixels or similar technologies placed on your device or embedded in our pages.
These analytics and advertising technologies are not essential to using our website, and they are only used in line with the cookie preference you choose. If you reject non-essential cookies, or have not yet made a choice, we do not load Google Analytics or the Meta Pixel and no analytics or advertising information is sent. You can change your choice at any time using the link in the footer of every page.
Essential storage always remains active, because the website and the order process cannot work without it. For example, some parts of the website remember your order progress in your own browser so you can pick up where you left off, and keep your cookie choice so you are not asked repeatedly. This information stays on your device.
Third-party creative and production services
Creating a documentary film involves specialist production work. Where it is necessary to create your film, the photographs, written memories and other material you submit may be processed using trusted third-party creative and technical services — for example image restoration and enhancement, image processing and animation, narration and voice production, editing, and secure file storage and transfer. These services are used as part of producing and delivering your film.
Your material is used only as necessary to create and deliver your film. We do not use your photographs, memories or finished film for Chapters in Motion marketing, promotion or examples without your permission, and we do not sell your material.
Your rights and contacting us
You can ask us at any time what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it where we no longer need it to fulfil your order or meet legal obligations. Nothing in this policy removes any rights you have under data protection law.
To contact us about your personal information, email hello@chaptersinmotion.com or use our contact page.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update this page. The policy shown here always applies to the website as it is today.
